Jump Height

Film a vertical jump in slow motion, mark the frame you leave the ground and the frame you land, and get your jump height from your time in the air. Your video never leaves your phone.

1. Set up the shotPhone on the floor or a tripod, side-on, feet in frame. Use slow motion (120 or 240 fps) if you have it.
2. Jump the right wayHands on hips, jump straight up, land with straight legs. Tucking your knees makes the number wrong.
3. Mark two framesTakeoff: the first frame both feet are off the ground. Landing: the first frame a foot touches down.

Choose a video and mark both frames.

Jump height is calculated from flight time (height = g x t² / 8), the same method used by validated slow-motion jump apps (Balsalobre-Fernandez et al., 2015). Best of 3 jumps is your score. Retest with the same setup every time.
